The following is the definition and areas covered by Red Star Inspections during structural inspection:
Foundation and Grading :
Your Red Star home inspector will inspect the foundation, related structural components and/or slab surfaces for general indications of foundation movement such as; sheetrock cracks, brick cracks, door frame movement and floor slopes. He will report anything that needs to be repaired due to improper grading around foundation walls, plumbing leaks, erosion or water ponding. He will report any inadequately ventilated crawl spaces and any post tensioned cable ends that are not protected.
Pier and Beam:
Your Red Star Home Inspector will crawl beneath the house and inspect every inch of the structure. He will report any deficiencies in structural components and ensure the general condition is in good standing.
Roof and Attic :
Your Red Star home inspector will inspect the general condition of the roof and ensure the roof covering is appropriate for the slope of the roof and all fasteners are present. He will note any covering in need of repair and report evidence of previous repairs to flashing, skylights and other roof penetrations.
Attic:
Your inspector will inspect the general condition of the roof covering, structure and sheathing. The inspector will report inadequate attic space ventilation and evidence of moisture penetration, he will also note any inappropriate installation of components such as purlins, struts, collar ties or rafter ties. The inspector will report any excessive deflections or depressions in the roof’s surface relating to the performance of the framing and the roof deck.
Interior Walls, Doors, Ceiling and Floors :
Your Red Star home inspector will inspect the general condition of the walls, ceilings and floors and report deficiencies due to structural performance or water penetration that are present and visible. He will report any doors that do not operate properly, excluding locks and latches.
Exterior Walls, Doors, Windows and Door Glazing :
Your Red Star home inspector will report any visible deficiencies of exterior walls due to structural performance or water damage. He will inspect the condition of the exterior doors and garage doors, including door locks and latches when present. The inspector will report any windows or doors with evidence of broken seals or missing screens.
Stairways, Steps, Balconies and Railings :
Your Red Star home inspector will inspect the general condition of stairways, steps, balconies and railings and report any inappropriate spacing between intermediate balusters, spindles or rails.
Fireplace and Chimney :
Your Red Star home inspector will inspect the visible components and structure of the chimney and fireplace. He will also inspect the interior firebox and the visible flue area and report any need of repair due to built up creosote.
